The library is hosting a candidate forum for Canyonville City Council and Mayor at the Bergin College auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 PM, with the moderated Q&A program running from 6:00–8:30 PM. Robert Heilman of the nonpartisan League of Women Voters of Umpqua Valley, a third-party organization, will moderate the forum.
On August 20th, we mailed certified letters to all 11 candidates inviting them to take part. As of this writing, 4 candidates have confirmed: Mayoral Candidate Christine Morgan and City Council Candidates Steve Morgan, Paige McMahon, and Luke Suhr. This page will be updated as more responses are received.
We're eagerly awaiting word from the rest, with a response deadline of September 14th.
We would love nothing more than a full house of candidates—all eleven—standing up in front of this community to answer questions directly. This is Canyonville's chance to see and hear the people asking to lead it, in person, in the same room as the neighbors they'd be serving.
The event will also be live-streamed on our Facebook page for anyone who can't make it in person.
A copy of the rules and questions is available at the Library for anyone to view.
