Dolly Parton's Imagination Library
Thanks to the Douglas Community Library Association (DCLA), Dolly Parton's Imagination Library can benefit children from birth to age five in Canyonville, Glendale, Myrtle Creek, Oakland, Riddle, Sutherlin, Yoncolla, and Winston. This initiative enhances literacy by providing free books that are mailed directly to the homes of young children. By promoting early reading habits, the Imagination Library aims to improve educational outcomes and support future success for these children.
You can register online or stop by the library to complete a paper form, and we will happily enroll you.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
The idea is simple: Read to your newborn, infant, or toddler to introduce them to books. Aim for 1,000 different stories before Kindergarten. Reading the same book multiple times helps deepen your child's understanding and love for reading.
Children earn awards and incentives along the way to inspire and celebrate their achievements.
This fun, family activity strengthens your bond and sparks your child's imagination. Visit or email the library for more information and to sign up.
Summer Reading Program
The Summer Reading Program is designed to inspire a love of reading, learning, and keeping kids on track during the summer break. The program invites children in grades K-12 to engage with books through their reading logs, fun challenges, and interactive activities.
This six-week program features weekly fun, educational presentations, and raffles. As readers progress, they can earn rewards, such as books, free backpacks, and other great prizes for their achievements. This program encourages literacy and fosters a sense of community as families and friends come together to celebrate the joys of reading. Join us this summer and let your imagination soar!
Ready Reader Program
Thanks to generous support from the Douglas Community Library Association (DCLA) and other advocates of children’s literacy, we can purchase books for children in grades K through 2nd each month and deliver them to Canyonville Elementary and Days Creek Charter schools for children to take home.
The Ready Reader program enhances reading skills for children up to second grade, promoting vocabulary, confidence, social-emotional development, and problem-solving abilities. This program positively impacts literacy skills among students in our community. Encouraging children to read at home for just 20 minutes daily greatly enhances their reading development.
